Objective psychometric testing may be utilized as well (e.g. MMPI-A, BASC). The Psychiatric Assessment offers a consult by a psychiatrist and follow-up care as needed.

The Stabilization Component provides support, problem solving, and skills training in a structured atmosphere designed to stabilize the client and determine their needs. The program utilizes various cognitive-behavioral approaches, especially DBT.

The Treatment Component includes DBT skills training and group psychotherapy.

The Aftercare Component begins the first day of treatment when planning begins for follow-up services and continues as needed.

Coordination is a key part the program. It begins with involving the family immediately, offering a family assessment and therapy. All other service providers including the family physician, mental health and social service providers, and the school are contacted to solicit their input. Should the family not have on-going mental health services, referrals will be made and services will be encouraged to start immediately.

The ASTAT program will attempt to schedule an assessment within 24 hours of the referral. Once the assessment has been completed, treatment will begin as soon as possible.

The ASTAT program also includes consultation with a consulting psychiatrist, a family assessment, a weekly parent educational group and possible referral for family or individual therapy.

The ASTAT group meets Monday through Thursday from 2:30 to 5:30 pm. Theprogram length is based on the need of the client. The recommended duration in the ASTAT program is 5-7 weeks. ASTAT is an open group with an average of 8 adolescents.

Most insurance companies will cover the program. Clients without coverage may apply for a sliding fee based on income.
